Bringing a Pet into the UAE

To bring a pet into the United Emirates, please choose one of the following procedures:

First option:
You can download the Canadian International Health Certificate available in PDF from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) website:

This certificate must be printed on legal paper (8.5”x14”), no other format will be accepted.
This certificate must be completed by a veterinarian licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Canada and then presented to an official government veterinarian to be endorsed. There will be a fee applied for this service. For CFIA office for the province in which you reside, please consult this website: www.inspection.gc.ca
Then it should be sent to the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Ottawa for legalization at 125 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0G2 Attention: (JLAC) legalization section, Tel: (613) 944-4000 or 1-800-267-8376 and then you have to forward it to the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates attention to Consular Section for authentication.
The fee for authenticate the health certificate by the UAE Embassy is CAD$50.00. The Embassy only accepts money orders or certified cheques made payable to the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, a prepaid return envelope.


Second option:

You have to contact the veterinarian requesting a health certificate for the pet. The  health certificate should describe that the pet is free from demonstrable contagious or infectious disease, and do not show  emaciation, lesions of the skin, signs of internal and external parasites, nervous system disturbances, jaundice, etc….
As well, the veterinarian has specify the types of vaccinations that your pet had, the dates, the name of the pet, color, age, weight, sex, the address of the owner and all other information related to the pet. The certificate should be issued at least 3-4 weeks before the departure to the UAE.
The veterinarian should sign each health certificate, then send to the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Ottawa for legalization at 125 Sussex Drive Ottawa, KIA 0G2   Attention: (JLAC) legalization Section, Tel: 613 995 0119, and then you have to forward it to the Embassy of the United Arab  Emirates for  authentication.
The fee to authenticate the health certificate is  $50.00. The Embassy only accepts money orders or certified cheque made payable to the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, and a prepaid return envelope.
You have to get an import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries in the United Arab Emirates.
